Spiral Staircase Installation in Massachusetts

Custom spiral and helical stairs, with the center column, treads, and railing designed as one piece of metalwork rather than a kit dropped into the opening.

Spiral and helical, inside and out

A spiral stair is a tight circle around a center. A helical stair is the more open, sculptural version. We fabricate both when the opening, the headroom, and the landing can actually take them. Exterior spirals, like deck-to-deck stairs, use weather-ready steel and treads. Interior spirals are detailed for the finish of the house.

The railing is part of the stair, not an add-on. Pickets, cable, or a closed pan are chosen with the tread and the diameter. Our broader stair work is on architectural staircases.

What makes a spiral buildable

Diameter, floor-to-floor height, door swings at the landings, and where the center post can bear. A photo of the opening is not a spiral design. We need those dimensions, or we measure them, before we commit to a price.

Exterior spirals in Massachusetts also need a finish that survives winter and a tread that drains. Diamond plate and open risers are common. Interior stairs can be closed and finished to the room.

Rails on a stair you already have

If the spiral is already there and only the rail failed, that may be an interior railing or outdoor stair railing scope. Say which one it is when you write.

FAQ

Are spiral stairs a code stair?

Some are, and some are only a secondary stair. We need the use of the stair and the building type before we treat it as the required exit.

Can you build a helical stair, not just a kit spiral?

Yes. Helical stairs are shop-fabricated to the opening. They are not a box of parts with a fixed diameter.

Do you install the rail if someone else built the stair?

Sometimes. We have to see the stair and whether our posts can connect to it safely.
